Geneviève Gebruers knew early on that caring for others was her calling. Yet her path was not straight. As a single mother, with a son who was often ill and periods of uncertainty, she had to put her dream on hold more than once. From care assistant to nurse: a dream with detours

In 2018, Geneviève completed the care assistant training at Kisp Adult Education. It was a first step towards her dream: becoming a nurse. “It was a journey in several stages. I had initially started the Nursing program at the university of applied sciences. But because I was a single mother at the time and my son was often in the hospital, I missed many classes. I was unable to finish that program because I couldn't manage it alongside my private life. Fortunately, I then approached Kisp for the Healthcare Assistant program. Thanks to the necessary exemptions and an adapted trajectory, I was able to obtain my Healthcare Assistant diploma at Kisp. data-bootstrap-contains="containers">

After graduating, I worked as a care assistant in a residential care center for a while. But when things quieted down a bit in my private life, I decided to retrain as a nurse. My training as a care assistant was the perfect preparation for that. Once a nurse, I soon established my own home nursing practice. I wanted to offer care as I envisioned it in my mind and heart: care that extends beyond medical care. actions."

Care as a calling

The desire to care for others grew during Geneviève's childhood. As a child, she helped her grandparents and learned that small gestures can make a big difference. “I enjoyed taking care of my grandfather, but it was above all my grandmother who taught me what true care is. Her loving devotion, day in and day out, shaped me. She showed me that gentleness heals, that closeness gives strength, and that love is often found in the smallest gestures.
